7 Super Simple Ways to Attract More Readers to Your Blog
How many readers to your blog attract in a typical month? It's not uncommon for blog traffic to fluctuate. In some months, your blog will attract more readers. In other months, it will attract fewer readers. If your blog has consistently low traffic, though, you should consider the seven following tips to attract more readers.
1) Comment on Relevant Blogs
Leaving comments on relevant blogs is an easy and effective way to attract more readers to your own blog. Most blogging platforms, including WordPress, support visitor comments.
After reading a post, you can typically share your thoughts and opinions in the comment section at the bottom. Furthermore, you'll typically have the option of specifying your name as well as your blog's URL.
Once your comment has been published, visitors can click your name next to the comment to visit your blog. To find relevant blogs that support visitor comments, search for a comment footprint followed by your blog's niche.
Be aware that not all comments will drive traction and add credibility to your blog and brand. Make sure the comments you leave add value to the conversation by being relevant, valuable, and timely and are not just treated as spam.
2) Write Compelling Post Titles
The title can make or break a blog post. If a post has a boring or uninspiring title, users probably won't visit or read it. By creating compelling titles that pique users' interest, on the other hand, you'll attract more readers to your blog.
You should still create relevant titles that accurately reflect what your posts are about, but try to structure them in a way that compels users to click and read the post. According to HubSpot, blog titles with just eight to 12 words attract the most readers.
With such limited space, you probably won't be able to fully describe the entire post. Nonetheless, you should be able to create a general overview of the post in the title while simultaneously compelling users to visit and read it.
3) Add Images to Posts
Avoid publishing text-only blog posts. Images do more than just improve a post's aesthetics; they expand the post's online visibility by allowing the respective images to appear on Google Images, Bing Images, and other image search engines.
As a result, posts with images typically attract more readers than posts without images. There are multiple ways to source images for your blog. You can create them yourself using a camera or graphic design software such as Canva.
Alternatively, you can download them a stock photo website like pixabay.com or istockphoto.com, the former of which offers free stock photo downloads. Regardless of where you source from, include several relevant images in each post.
4) Create an Email Newsletter
You can use an email newsletter to attract more readers to your blog. When you publish a new post, you can send an email to subscribers asking them to check it out.
In this email, include the title of the post, an excerpt, and a link to the post on your blog. If a subscriber is interested in the topic, he or she may click the link to read the rest of the post.
For an email newsletter to bring new readers to your blog, you must build your subscriber list. Only subscribers will see your emails, and if you have a small list of just a dozen subscribers, your emails won't drive many new readers to your blog.
To get new subscribers put sign-up forms on your blog and offer something of value in exchange for their email address. Autoresponder platforms such as AWeber offer attractive sign-up forms that can be placed in various places on your blog.
Ensure that what you are offering in exchange for a visitor's email address is relevant to the blog post and offers a solution to a problem they are trying to solve.
Free things that you can offer on your sign-up forms are PDFs, eBooks, video series, and infographics. Software such as Designrr can be used to create stunning eBooks and reports in minutes without requiring any high degree of design or technical skills.
Publish your newsletter signup form on your blog, as well as your blog's social media profiles, to build your subscriber list.
5) Write Longer Posts
The length of your blog posts can affect the number of readers they attract. Longer posts generally attract more readers than shorter posts. They rank higher in the search results, generate more shares on social media and attract more backlinks, all of which increase readership.
If you're struggling to attract readers to your blog, try writing fewer but longer posts. Instead of writing three 300-word posts, for example, perhaps you can write a single 900-word post. While the word count is the same, you'll generate better results from a single long post compared to three or more short posts.
6) Optimize Posts for Search Traffic
Don't forget to optimize your blog posts for search traffic. Extending the word count of a post doesn't guarantee high search rankings.
You must perform other on-page and off-page search engine optimization (SEO) to gain traction in the search results. As your blog's search rankings increase, it will attract more readers.
When writing posts, try to weave in the keywords for which you want the post to rank. Unless a particular word or phrase is included in a post, it probably won't rank for that keyword.
You should also include target keywords in your posts' titles and meta descriptions. Each post should have a unique title and meta description featuring the post's target keyword.
Finally, off-site SEO, such as building backlinks, will encourage higher search rankings while helping you attract more readers to your blog.
7) Share Links to Posts on Social Media
After publishing a new post, log in to your blog's social media profiles to share a link to it. Don't just copy and paste the entire post but, instead, publish a link to your post.
When you publish a link on Facebook, the social media network will pull the title, as well as an image, from the linked URL. Facebook users can then decide whether to click the link and visit your post on your blog.
If you share an entire post on Facebook by copying and pasting it, users probably won't visit your blog. After all, why would a Facebook user visit your blog if he or she can read the entire post directly on Facebook?
By only sharing links to your posts, users are more likely to visit your blog so that they can read the entire post. Just remember to include images in your blog posts. Otherwise, any links you share with them on Facebook will consist only of text.
If you invest in a social media sharing tool like Buffer, you can automate the sharing of your blog posts on various social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn.
Having an automated posting schedule can free up your time to concentrate on the important aspect of researching and producing readable, high-quality, engaging content. Over time Buffer will even be able to ascertain the best time to post your blog content for the highest engagement on the various social media platforms.
These are just a few ways to attract more readers to your blog. Most importantly, focus on creating high-quality posts that are useful and relevant to your blog's target audience.
If your blog is filled with valuable content, people will naturally want to read it.
